Swimming Groups
At Great Yarmouth and Waveney Special Olympians the athletes are allocated into groups according to their swimming ability and needs in the water.
We have 3 sessions;
1.30pm - 2.30pm - Beginners and intermediates.
2.30pm - 3.30pm - Advanced.
3.30pm-4.30pm - Masters.
The swimming calendar
The swimming sessions are run in 6 blocks and in each block are 5/6/7 sessions. The swimming strokes are taught in rotation for weeks 1-4. On weeks 5-6 the sessions concentrate on stamina and other techniques, such as tumble turns and under water work.
The lesson plans in weeks 1- 6/7 for all blocks apart from Spring block one are:
10 minute warm up in group
10 mins refresh and review
20 minute - Swimming training
5 minutes - Contrasting activities
10 minutes - Timed swimming
5 minutes - Warm down
The lesson plans for spring block 1 are :-
Week 1
10 min warm up.
30 min training.
10 mins stamina timing.
10 min warm down.
Week 2
10 min warm up.
20 mins training.
20 mins stamina timing.
10 mins warm down.
Week 3.
10 min warm up
10 min training
30 min stamina timing
10 min warm down.
Week 4
10 min warm up
40 min stamina timing
10 min warm down.
Week 5.
5 min warm up.
50 min stamina timing
5 min warm down.
Week 6/7
60 min stamina timing
